Manchester hosts commonwealth leadership Programme

Manchester has been selected as one of five UK cities to host Commonwealth leaders participating in the prestigious CSCLeaders leadership programme next week.

CSCLeaders assembles exceptional senior leaders to tackle challenges that businesses, governments and society face today and build the global relationships needed by the leaders of tomorrow.

The 15-strong group visiting Manchester include a University Vice Chancellor from Bangladesh, the Business Development Director from a Malaysian minerals company and a planning and an Infrastructure Director from Australia.

They will spend three days in Manchester, meeting leaders from local government, businesses and the local community. The participants will investigate the challenge: "How do you get societal - as well as economic - value out of technological innovation?" They will explore how best practice from Manchester can contribute to innovative and practical solutions with a global impact.

The CSCLeaders participants will be welcomed to the city by Councilor Sir Richard Leese, leader of Manchester City Council. The places they will visit include:

  • Manchester Academic Health Science Centre where they will find out more about this partnership, between The University of Manchester and six leading NHS organisations, uniting leading healthcare providers with world-class academics and researchers
  • Bridge College, the Together Trust's specialist education college in Openshaw for students aged 16 to 25 years with disabilities, complex needs and autism
  • The BBC at Mediacity
  • Sci-Tech Daresbury and an opportunity to meet with some of the businesses leading the way with their technological innovation.
